eh, evanston has some minor crime issues too.

if i had to guess, i'd say evanston is no safer than edgewater.

Maybe they do, I don't really remember. Although if the OP lived somewhere along the red line close to Evanston but at least in the Chicago limits you'd be on a 24/7 el line, not far from Evanston if you need to commute by public transit or even drive, relatively easy access to more vibrant areas on public transit, and no worry about increased cab rates for leaving the city limits. I know Chet has already poo-pooed the idea of something from Rogers Park to Uptown, but it's really not a bad idea, and it's very viable for people that work in Evanston. I know several of my coworkers live along that corridor, myself included.
