I rented an apartment around the Clark and Lawrence Ave (no further East than Clark) and am wondering if this is a relatively safe area for a single 30 year old lady like myself. I know it's a matter of being aware of your surroundings, but does the riffraff from further East down Lawrence Ave typically make it's way over there near Chase Park?

It's fine.

They are building some yuppie townhomes just north.

I believe there's a $6 buffet there that isn't half bad too.

Ch'ava cafe just south on Clark is great and the Andersonville strip has really be expanding south of Foster lately.

I think you'll be fine. The riffraff tends to stay further east; I know from experience.

Dover St., just east of Clark is a lovely block. Do try the chilaquiles at Tiztal Café.

My perception (based on just walking through those areas numerous times) is that west of Clark in that vicinity is perfectly fine. Going east of Clark, it starts to get a little "iffy" within a few blocks, and gets worse the further east you go.

What place might that be? I'm always looking for new places to eat that are decent yet inexpensive.

AYCE Mexican place on SE corner of Clark and Lawrence. It isn't very good. I'd head east and get al pastor at Carmela's Taqueria instead. Uptown has many problems, abundant high quality cheap eats isn't one of them.
