I was recently offered a career opportunity in the Chicagoland area. Based upon the location of this opportunity, I located a possible place to live in the zip code of 60652. Can anyone provide any additional information about this location or neighbood?

1. What is the crime rate?
2. Is there easy access to public transportation and major expressways?

The problem with zip codes is that they cover a lot of area. Give an internsection and we could give you more info.

That's a pretty good area (below average crime for Chicago). There's a couple of train stations, would take about an hour to get into downtown though (30 mins by car)

That's what google maps says. You have to get the bus to the nearest subway station (30 mins, because it makes a stop every minute), then another 30 mins to get the subway to downtown.

60652 is an zip code, so it depends on where you live. The Metra runs right through it which is about a 30 minute trip to Union Station from there. If you take the red line, then maybe but the Metra does go right through it.

Why would you do that when there's two Metra stations right there?

Beware Google maps. They do give directions that work, but the directions may lack common sense. They can give you a complicated route just because you choose to arrive at 6:00 instead of say 6:05(when another bus or train could be running). They could have you waiting in an unsafe area for a transfer when you might be willing to make the transfer in a safer area. They could have you walking a mile when if you choose a different departure time the bus could land you in front of the place.

Anyway for 60652 there are two Metra Stations for the South west service and depending on where in 60652 he lives it could make sense to use the Rock Island line to downtown. both are about 30 min to downtown. Driving however would be longer than 30 mins because there is no expressway in that area of town. You would need to get off the Dan Ryan and drive the street probably pressing 45-60 mins in rush hour. Only way you could get 30 mins is if you hit no traffic what so ever a.k.a. 4 a.m. otherwise the drive time is not realistic. You do need to factor in time to get to the stations but in some cases you could drive or walk or take a bus and who knows how that factors into it becuase the area code is so large.

The only reason you would take the red line(a.ka. the subway) is for lower fare or if you need to come home at a time when Metra isn’t running.
