There's an under-reported skyscraper boom right around the corner.

Lots of proposals being pushed through and construction sites are setting up frequently. Few tall ones as well (900ft+)

Possible attractions to come:

The spire. That'd be nice.

Expanded and more inviting Chicago Pedway so it becomes a minor tourist attraction akin to Montreal's Underground City (it's also a really, really good way to deal with inclement weather).

More ground levels of high-rises/skyscrapers given over to street-facing retail and stuff.

Half of LSD given over to more parkland, event spaces, other things along with stoplights so it's easy to cross by foot or bike at many, many points.

Nicer lighting of lower levels of multi-level streets and addition of more interesting street-facing shops, bars, restaurants, etc. where possible.

More lake events where you actually go out on the lake. Barge parties and completely transparent diving bells. A full scale model of the underwater station from the Abyss. Throw in some bionic dolphins, too.

Improved riverfront throughout the city, not just in the Loop and River North.

Tom Ping Park molded into an authentic Chinese classical garden. Build a high-rise pagoda luxury condominium nearby just for the kitsch.

Circle Line made to allow for a Circle Line pub crawl as was in London.

Limited, specialty nearly all-transparent (including floor, roof, and seats) material traincars for the L running at select times.

More greenspaces/public spaces within the city in general.

Giant architecturally interesting multi-tiered and sectioned greenhouse with a waterfront (possibly more than one), with options for pina colada's in the tropics during a freezing but sunny day during the winter with servings of local, fresh papaya.

Better sewage treatment and urban runoff filtering so that rivers and lake are teeming with life and all catch from the waters is safely edible. Fishing for dinner in the Loop is a thing.

Bison herds on south side urban prairies.

Some derelict part of the city also gets the start of a new Mount Trashmore (well-designed to make it as minimally environmentally damaging and unpleasant as possible), to be a park once filled up and the new highest point in the city. There's a lot of trash, so ski slopes comes soon after.

In the spirit of Holi, CPD convinces all gangs of Chicago to trade in guns for paintball guns and discount cards on nontoxic, washable paintball ammo. Gang members still get to prove their skill and manliness and still get to mark their territories, no one gets hurt too bad, the burden on the health care system is substantially lifted, everything looks a bit more festive. Tourists get to join in, but must use an ugly mauve sort of color for ammo.

Ziplines from the top of Sears Tower to Michigan and Indiana (sand dunes)

Hookers.

Robots.

Robot Hookers.
