I am hoping to go to NCC (North Central College), and took a tour there today... it was a great college.

My question is how long would it take to get from Naperville to Chicago?

You haven't provided enough information...it depends on what time you're talking about and where in Chicago you're talking about. All these are big factors.

I'd say usually on the weekends, around late morning... and any location within 10 miles of Chicago. I am not familiar with the exact train stops since I have not ridden the train from Naperville to Chicago yet.

If you want to ride the train, there are only two stops inside the Chicago city limits on weekends: Union Station downtown and Western Avenue at 18th Street. (No weekend stops at Halsted.) There are many more stations in suburbs just west of Chicago. I don't know if any of them would be more convenient for you to reach.

The time from Union Station to the Naperville station is 50 to 60 minutes on weekend non-express trains.
Plus you have to add the time to get from your home to Union Station (or whatever other station you board at), plus time to get to the college from the Naperville station, plus time to wait for the next train. Since trains run one to two hours apart on weekends, you may find yourself waiting 0 to 119 minutes for the next train.

Here is the train schedule if you want to check it out yourself.

Here is the Metra web page for the BNSF line. You can use it to view maps and schedules and to locate stations that may be convenient for you.

Wow! Thank you very much. You helped a lot.

Seems like a hassle, but I'll deal with it

Thank you !

If you live within a half mile of the downtown Naperville Metra station and only need to travel somewhere near Union Station during rush periods, it's something like a 35 minute express train. For all other types of trips, it's a soul-sucking horrible experience. It's really quite far.

Yeah if you're talking about the train then it's not that bad. The commuter trains are better than the city trains (for very good reason) so you can chill out on them, watch movies, tv shows, whatever you want to do. Can't really do that while you're driving so...although you might be traveling, all is not lost.

For driving it could take anywhere from 30-35 minutes when there's not much traffic to well over an hour if there is traffic for a ways.

Yeah I'd say Naperville has the widest contrast between its Express and normal times. You're talking like 35 minutes vs. a solid hour. Really terrible. Plus the Expresses are always packed solid. At least the inner ring burbs have relatively short travel times even on regular trains with all the stops.
