I am remodeling my small kitchen and need to hire an electrician and pipe fitter. Does anyone have recommendations of people they have used? I live in Wrigleyville. Thanks!

A fitter? You sure you don't need a plumber rather than a fitter? Is it steam line work?

Anyway if you need a fitter call Hayes Mechanical or Independant Mechanical. They're old boilermaker outfits that expanded to do fitter work as well, good outfits. Maybe they supply sparkies too now.

I think Tom knows full well that the odds any homeowner needing to hire the kind of firms that do the pipe-layouts for entire industrial plants / high rises are remote. If you do not have a full blown engineer drawn "piping schedule" I think you will be laughed at by a large pipe fitting / mechanical firm...

What the OP probably needs to hire is a "plumber" that will have the skills appropriate to move / rearrange any pipes for water or heat in any home. They will also need to hire an electrician. The difficulty with trying to hire either of them for a SMALL remodel project is that you may end up "at the bottom of their list" because they generally will make more money quicker on SIMPLE repairs OR larger projects managed by a GENERAL CONTRACTOR than a less than well-organized homeowner trying to live in the gray area between "do it yourself" and hiring a professional remodeling contractor. You may do better seeking out a small remodeling firm or well regarded "handyman".

I would strongly suggest GETTING A REFERRAL from a neighbor that has had good work done by licensed electricians and plumbers. I would also strongly suggest that any permits be obtained before hand as delays caused by a City Inspector stopping any non-permit work are often the worst part of a remodel in Chicago...

I have heard very mixed reviews on the "online list" type services with the "fee" based services largely NOT being worth it as too many folks circumvent the process of weeding out bad / overpriced contractors...

If you're just looking to move the gas line for your stove, hire a plumber.
