I can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere online. I bought a multi unit in Logan Square (owner-occupied)four years ago, at which point I inherited a unit of section 8 tenants. During those four years, those tenants' behavior have ranged from annoying to awful. I am ready to be done with them as tenants when their lease is up this summer. Plus, we think we could raise rent a bit if we could rent the apartment to the general public. And really, I want to just end my participation altogether with the Section 8 program. How do I go about doing this? Does the Chicago housing Authority make it really difficult? Can anyone point me in the right direction and or tell me your similar experience with this? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that accepting section 8 tenants is voluntary. So, when the current people move out just select a new tenant that isn't section 8. Done.

You didn't answer the question. His current Section 8 tenants won't move out, unless he can drop his participation in the Section 8 program. How does he do that?

They said that they were ready to be done with these tenants when their lease is up in the summer. So, at that time you simply say "we are not going to renew your lease" at which point they need to move out. I didn't get the impression that the tenants would refuse to move out.

If they do refuse to move out, then you start eviction proceedings.

There is no law that says any landlord is required to renew someone's lease that I am aware of.
