Figured Id toss a fun thread your way. It doesnt have to be a skyscraper, this thread pertains to ANY building in Chicago. Whether it be the Rookery, or the Bahai Temple or the Sears Tower... if its in Chicago and its your favorite, tell us!

Mine? The John Hancock. Timeless and gorgeous.

ahhh man, tough question. honestly, an impossible question. The Rookery is amazing as far as old architecture goes. it would be like asking a parent who their favorite child is...except theres thousands of children . i'll try to keep it short...

for mid-century stuff, the Inland Steel building is one of my fav buildings of all time

as is Lake Point Tower

As far as "new" skyscrapers go, theres a few I really dig, but especially:

333 West Wacker (the reflections this thing gives off are sublime, as is the curve it takes along the river)

and most recently, i really really dig 71 South Wacker

Ok, I'll stop now

I love the Inland Steel building too. That and the Carbide and Carbon and Santa Fe buildings. Good stuff.

Usual suspects for me:

Sears Tower -- because I worked there.
The Hancock -- because it was the highlight of the view from Lakeview where we lived.
RR Donnelley -- (corner of Wacker and Clark) -- great at night.
Carbide & Carbon -- love the golden top.

Seems like a lot of new shiny, reflective buildings are going up all over downtown.

Is that an artists rendition or an actual photo?

i think they're renderings, tho i could be wrong. When Blair Kamin reviewed this building in the Trib, he interviewed the architect, and he commented that no one was sure how feasible the lobby design was (since the roof supports the parking ramp), and he was afraid it wouldnt live up to his vision. he went on to say thats it came out better than any of them could ever have hoped and that even he was stunned at the result...honestly, the detailing is amazing. it even brings the outside "in", by having vegetation up to the outside wall, and then continuing it on the other side

both this building and 71 wacker (which I mentioned earlier) have formed the new gateway to the loop from the west. and there couldnt be two better architectural designs to do it.
