I do not make my living selling real estate. I am far from desperate to do a anything other than point out the ignorance of some when it comes to the lack of safety in many parts of Chicago...

The terrible unemployment that plagues Chicago along with lawlessness and failing schools all make it hard to understand why anyone would consider some of these areas...

I rarely if ever recommend that anyone with a family do other than choose the safest area they can afford which will give then the shortest commute. If the OP is looking for budget friendly places to live in the general vicinity of the areas mentioned be haze of work situation I believe there are better options...

To set the record straight:

The OP on this thread has not returned to give any more clarication on why they are considering such unusual choices. If they are unaware of the level of crime that plaque these areas that should have been cleared up.

No other posts have refuted any of the valid and useful links that substantiate the level of crime present.

No one in this thread has made any suggestions of places that might better meet the OP's needs becuase they is not info to understand why they were interested in these areas.

The supposed info from others about any motivation is not helpful to the OP, especially when it undoubtedly comes from others that are misinformed...

McKinley Park hands down. It's a nicer area and the park is awesome. However, Western is the border between McKinley Park and Brighton Park which is not a particularly nice neighborhood. East of the tracks is better than west, and I'd want to be at least half a block away from Western just for noise-avoidance.

Chet once said he lives in "eastern Dupage County". I think Downers Grove.

I was under the impression that Chet was a realtor for various properties in Dupage. This is also why he has such a strong anti-Oak Park agenda.

I thought it was an anti Chicago agenda.

He has that too.

Read the forum more, buddy. It's no secret Chey is contstantly saying bad things aboug Oak Park and trying to dissuade people from moving there. And the city. And just about any suburban area that's not in Dupage - but mostly he rips into Oak Park and Chicago.

My impression was always that he wants people to pass up Oak Park and possibly find his properties in Dupage County. Look at just about ANY Oak Park thread and you will find Chet saying negative things and Oak Parkers getting simarly angry as the Chicagoans in this thread.

For most of us who live in the city and post on the city forum, DuPage County is a far more unusual place to want to live than McKinley Park or West Town.
