Oh, get a sense of humor. I'm well aware that it's a derogatory Cleveland nickname.

There is only one city on that list that has a worse winter than Chicago, and that's Minneapolis.
It all boils down to how you define "worse". In terms of cold/wind chill, you're absolutely correct. In terms of snow and/or overcast days, a number of cities on that list have it "worse" than Chicago.

You really meant to say, "lose your sense of humor," right? Because that's what I'd have to do in order to think that was funny.

I'd have probably recognized it as an attempt at humor if not for the completely irrational things being said in all seriousness on this thread. Confusing the meaning of "Mistake By The Lake" wouldn't even make the top 10.

Jesus. Look at it again. Compared to the rest of the North Central US, it is actually quite sunny, not normal. Same with Portland, Seattle, Nashville, Louisville too. It actually has more clear days than Salt Lake City too.

Chicago is within a half standard deviation of "average"...in other words, pretty normal for the nation at large...tall the way a 5-11 guy is tall...pick your anology. If you want to tell me that it isn't as sunny as Denver or Miami or Phoenix or Dallas in the winter...well, thanks for the revelation pal. Of all the things to complain about regarding Chicago winters (temperature, wind chill, duration of the cold seaso, etc.) dreariness isn't really one of them. if you don't like it, the only place where you are going to see an appreciable difference (key word: appreciable) is in the Sun Belt.

Yes that is what I was going by, cold and windchill, just to be specific. I would assume that most people would consider that the worse, certainly not all, but that is what I usually remember the most, the bone chilling days. I don't think Chicago gets a BAD amount of snow like Rochester, or excessively grey days like Seattle, nor have I lived in either of those other environments, but I think I could put up with a lot of snow, and I'd take a milder grey day over a freezing one... but if it went on forever, not sure how I would react, I don't plan on finding out! haha

Thank you. I think the brain surgery comment is worth re-mentioning.

But our opinions dont matter. A region of 150 million, and a Chicago winter would be deemed average to us, but the weighted opinion only matters to those who dont like them.... according to ChiNaan that is.

Also, thank you for quoting the message that had ChiNaan initially mention "the rest of the world", considering he told me I couldnt use Montreal, Toronto, London, Paris or Tokyo.

Thats what I was responding to.

See, I personally hate the days of endless snowfall (lake effect especially). 100+ inches of snow annually gets old pretty quickly.

Give me the bone-chilling days, because at least the sun is out most of the time for them.

IMO, Chicago winters are like an urban myth. People think theyre like surviving an apocalypse, and I guess im just speaking for most others in the cold North in saying that Chicago winters arent as bad as theyre made out to be. The entire perception of it being "the worst" is what im after here, and yes, people do say it and have said on here.
