News-Star the edition that covers RP/edgewater/uptown/andersonville
has an article talking about a recent seiche, also it mentions a large seiche
in 1954 which killed eight people at Montrose Harbor, interesting phenomenom
that people should really know about because it could kill you.

"seiche(ssh, sch)
n. A wave that oscillates in lakes, bays, or gulfs from a few minutes to a few hours as a result of seismic or atmospheric disturbances.

[French dialectal, exposed lake bottom, probably from French sèche, feminine of sec, dry; see sec1.]"

Seiche - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I cant find any news story on it online, but if you pick up the current News-star you will the article
on the front page about the recent seiche (I guess it didnt kill anyone thats why it didnt make big news)
Its the July 4-10 edition of the paper.

I see that they said a seiche warning was released for last friday which was june 29th and swim bans. Seiche handholds (steel cables attached to steel posts anchored in concrete) have been installed along the chicago lakefront on the jetties and piers. This past seiche did flood the parking lot of Loyola Beach. No casualties reported.
