Chicago's expats don't stand pat in distant lands - chicagotribune.com

This was an amusing article on poor souls like me that had to leave Chicago for other cities. Anyone else out there that can relate? I definitely keep "close" to home through getting food from Chicago. The pictures of the city are nice too.

I'm currently living in St. Louis & simply hate it. Really miss Chicago, I can definitely relate to that article. I know my co-workers got sick & tired of me always talking about Chicago, I didn't care, lol.

Eventually won them over on the Windy City, when I visited and brought back some Garrett's Popcorn, which many never had. Now when it comes to Chicago, they want to know when i'm going back to Chi Town & bring back some of that popcorn.

Thank God for the internet, it's my connection to Chicago.

I grew up in St. Louis and go back pretty often. Parts are better than they used to be (Soulard, Tower Grove, Midtown and Washington Avenue) but the downtown business district is so pitifully bad these days for a metro area its size.

I agree. And it unfortunately gives visitors a very lame impression of St. Louis, and people don't realize that have to go west a few miles to Central West End, Forest Park, University City, etc to get a better sense of what STL has to offer.

Downtown Clayton is about the exact same size of Downtown STL literally. Like they made a clone and stuck it right past the city of STL boundary. I mean there is not even a suburban business district in Chicagoland as big as Clayton. Thats just crazy.

Few places can get into your bloodstream and stay there a lifetime like Chicago.
