My husband got transferred to Ford Chicago Hts a couple of years ago. We listened to advice from guys he works with and ended up in NW Indiana, which we hate.

If you go with the southern suburbs of Chicago and you have some money to spend I'd suggest towns such as Homewood-Flossmoor, Orland Park, Olympia Fields, etc. In the southwestern suburbs of Chicago I'd have to recommend suburbs like Darien (and its surrounding towns). All of these will have better Metra access to Chicago & will feel more metropolitan than northwest Indiana (they will feel more like Metro Detroit), and of course will be a bit more expensive than NW Indiana as well.
