Andy - I am from Dayton originally (Englewood, actually), and I would adivse you to skip the burbs of Chicago. Suburban Chicago is MUCH different than the burbs of Dayton. It is difficult to meet people in Chicago's burbs, and the people can actually be VERY unpleasant to you. The rent in the suburban areas is actually much higher than in the city. There is not much of a dating scene there either, and the women who live in the city DO NOT date guys who live in the burbs. Your best experience is to head directly to the city. I would advise you to not make the same mistake I made, which was to go to the burbs first and "transition" to the city. I would not waste my time out there.

Evanston (and Oak Park as well) are walkable and have a city-like environment (as opposed to a suburbab environment like Centerville or Kettering). They are both interesting places, but it is going to be just like the city anyway, so you might as well live in the city.

Sound advice.

Very true! Thank you everyone for the great advice! I definitely have a lot of things to think about, thankfully with the area being within a days drive to my location now I am gonna head up there and look at different areas for a weekend this month. It's nice to see how friendly and helpful everyone has been! Now, if I could just find potential roommates via Craigslist.
