I want to stay in the area I've grown up in because my husband works here and we don't have a car. We need a two bedroom, preferably a basement, apartment for us and our soon to be two kids. I would like to stay West of Western and maybe near Kedzie or Pulaski. I'm not sure how much further, but if anyone knows of some affordable places in our area, please let me know. Thank you in advance for any information.

Have you tried Craigslist yet? It will probably be your best resource since the well-known apartment-listing places pretty much ignore everything south of Roosevelt.

Thank you Drover. Yes, I've tried, but you're right and even craigslist sometimes ignores southern ones! I think I need to just walk around in the area to find more places.

Honestly go to the neighborhood and look for listings in random businesses or even walk the streets and look for "for rent" signs. In those kind of neighborhoods most things are done old school since they are more insular areas that transplant oriented apartment finding agencies would not know about.
