The weeds one is directly aimed at developers who aren't maintaining lots and properties they're just sitting on. Leaving lots in that condition causes problems with rats, mosquitos, and other pests.

I've never heard of a homeowner being ticketed for weeds, but at least 3 vacant properties in our neighborhood were ticketed, and then cleaned up right after the tickets were issued. I think in one case the Alderman hired someone to clean the lot and sent the bill to the property owner.

I'm more concerned with the increased fees for carrying drugs, driving drunk, soliciting prostitutes and carrying unregistered firearms. Those are gonna cost me an arm and a leg!

I wouldn't worry about it. With your lifestyle, you shouldn't be around very much longer.

I hope Chicago doesn't become another California in terms of fees and fines. They're doing this all because of budget problems and throwing money at schools. I live by 3 public schools and these schools have wasted a lot of money by fencing their parking lots and playgrounds. I can't even play at the playgrounds I played in when I was a kid!

When I saw the headline I was upset, but looking at all the fines....go for it. The city finances were BROKE before this year. Daley just kept throwing random sums of money at the problems, but they'd never go away.

If people are doing crap they shouldn't be doing, then fine them. I will have no problems at all escaping these fines except the water rates. Not happy about them going up, but we basically don't pay for water anyway, and most of those pipes are nearing 100 years old.
