And despite what Green Zone youth ghetto fans think the people down there manage to have fun in their own modest way and several of the taverns down there have quite lively younger crowds.

If it is anything like Garfield Ridge there will still be plenty of young people in the bars it's just that they most likely will be Chicago natives as opposed to the transplant crowd you find on the north side.

Thanks guys! Do you think that Beverly would be more expensive to live in than Mount Greenwood, or about the same? And would you still think that I should have a car in Beverly, or is public transportation better there than Mount Greenwood? I do have a car now, but I'm from the south and am not used to snow, so I'm kind of worried about driving/dealing with a car in those conditions...and I also don't want to bring a car somewhere where parking is a hassle.

Beverly is considered a more expensive neighborhood but that is mostly due to single family housing. As far as apartments Beverly does have many more apartment options than Mount Greenwood. There are nice apartment buildings along the Metra Rock Island Line tracks, as far as taking trips downtown you will not need your car and if you can master the bus between Beverly and Saint Xavier you might be able to go completely car free. My suggestion would be if you can't find an apartment withing walking distance of Saint Xavier in Mount Greenwood then look at Beverly. If you do bring your car then Mount Greenwood and Beverly are easier places to park and drive in than most of the city.

Do you think that apartments in Beverly would be likely to provide free off street parking? How about Mount Greenwood?

Also, I've heard that some people at St. Xavier live in Oak Lawn. Do you think that would be better/worse than the other options that have been discussed here?

Pretty much the same, really. Maybe a few minor advantages. There might be more apartments to choose from, slightly lower taxes and car insurance, better library service, definitely easy to find free parking.
