Hello,

Has anyone on this board dealt with Walter E. Smith Furniture? I am thinking of ordering from them online, but i understand they have stores all over Chicago.

Any info appreciated!

They have a catchy jingle other than that never set foot in the store.
but i do see them in a lot of locals , never heard anything bad.

I believe they are a little pricey for my budget

I have some furniture from Walter E. Smithe. Their stuff is on the more expensive end of the scale, but it is definitely higher quality as well. I'm not sure if I would order their furniture online though. I guess because it is more expensive and there are so many options on most of the pieces, it seems easier to do in the store. They had thousands of fabric options for the chairs we chose, for example, and I don't think I ever could have picked one without seeing it in person.

Our experience with Walter E. Smithe was really good. I'd definitely get furniture from them again. We ordered a dining room table with 4 chairs and 2 benches, a couch, and 2 upholstered chairs. We've had it all for 3 1/2 years now and it all looks as good now as it did the day they brought it into the house. The couch is white, actually, and even with all the various parties we've had over the past 3 years, nothing has left a stain on it.

I think that it is worth going to the stores, the people we worked with were really nice and not pushy. They let me borrow the fabric swatches so I could buy paint for the room and all that. The people on the floor are all designers, I think, so that can be helpful too. They'll give you ideas on how/where to place the furniture and that kind of stuff, if you want it. I already knew exactly what I wanted when we went in, but if we hadn't known, I think the designers may have been a big help.

Edited to add: We shopped at the store by Old Orchard Mall in Skokie... a couple of my friends also had a really good experience at their outlet store which is on Army Trail Road in Bloomingdale. Just in case that helps at all.

I recently purchased my bedroom and living room set from Walter E. Smithe. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I found pieces that I really liked. I recomend at leasting taking a look. Superior to Ethan Allen in my opinion.

Walter E. Smythe is a class act. You pay for it, but you get great service and tons of options. I would go to the Lincoln Park store instead of online.

You could also wander into Roy's Furniture in Lincoln Park. I was extremely impressed with the stuff I found there for the price and quality. I've talked to many other people who wandered in off the streets and were satisfied.

Our dining room furniture came from Roy's. My wife went to DePaul so she knew about it. Almost 8 years and looks good as new.
