Sorry if this is repeat thead but hi, I'm planning to move back to Chicago in October/November after living in Wisconsin for the past 13 years. I lived in Chicago prior to living here in WI. So, now I'm moving back...FINALLY. Thank GOD.

I'm wondering if these locations are good areas to live in Chicago? Crime is EVERYWHERE and will happen, so I'm not too concerned about that. HOWEVER, I already know to stay away from the south side AND parts of the north side, so that is OUT of the question, lol!

Here are some potential apartment choices:

Near the Uptown area:
Lake Shore Tower Apartments in Chicago, IL | Apartments.com

AND

South Shore area:
Michigan Beach Apartments in Chicago, IL | Apartments.com

I've also been looking in the area near Loyola's campus too! Are these good locations? Thank you!

Sidenote: Yeah, I do have family in Chicago and yes, I could ask them but I wanna hear some thoughts from strangers in Chicago. ^_^

So if you know to stay away from the south side, you shouldn't be looking at an apartment in South Shore.

The "Uptown" apartment you're looking at is really in Edgewater. That part of Edgewater is OK, a tiny bit grimy in some pockets, but mostly there's just not much to do in that area. That said, solid entertainment/nightlife districts are nearby. The area around Loyola is pretty eclectic with some pockets particularly northwest of campus being kind of "meh."

Hi chrawnick. I can tell you that the 5600 N Sheridan location is excellent. You are right by the up and coming Bryn Mawr area with Starbucks and many new restaurants, etc. Can walk to the new Dominicks at Foster and Sheridan and the Berwyn Jewel store. Also, a 10 minute fast walk over to the heart of Andersonville. I can't speak for the actual building you are considering.

good luck

True, lol but this building looks new and "South Shore" seems to be a nicer area.

Thanks though!

There is a very small pocket of South Shore that is "nice" but is surrounded by urban chaos. Just because it doesn't look like Englewood doesn't mean it's a safe, quiet area.

Are you sure you've lived in Chicago before?

The guy was 7 or 8 years old when he moved to Wisconsin.

By "nicer" area, I didn't mean an area where everyone's walking their poodles down the street, joggers jogging and waving at passerbys, & etc.

Just somewhere I won't step outside and have a 50/50 chance of getting shot on the spot by a stray bullet.

Yes. I used to live in the projects that were basically located across from the United Center. I don't remember the name of them though.

I also lived near St. Cabrini Hospital. That hospital was closed down yeaaarrrsss ago and converted into an apartment building located on Racine Ave & Cabrini St. That huge, empty ass land across the street, used to consist of projects. I don't remember the name of them either.
