I have no personal experience with Presidential Towers. I heard they were not good.

What about safety? Is the area around PT very safe? Is there other much safer areas I should consider researching? The area of 5000 Masion is not a safe area at all I gather from the posts?

thanks again all

For $900 you can get a studio anywhere in the city save perhaps the Gold Coast and a one bedroom in a lot of places.

It just seems if you are looking at Austin or Presidential Towers, without an explanation why, you haven't put much work into finding out anything about the city.

You could live in any of 50 neighborhoods in the city and they are incredibly different. What do you except people to say?

If you don't care where you live why don't you just live near your school.

The school is located on 451 N. LaSalle. My major concerns are location (being close to the school) and safety. I guess I'm not asking the correct questions. Does anyone have a suggestion for places close to the school?

Well don't worry about 'safety,' really, at least not yet.

Your school is in a neighborhood called River North which is mostly nightlife, restaurants and offices. That being said there are a lot of new residences there and you might be able to find a studio for $900. How old are you? Are you looking to meet people? If so you are probably not going to meet a lot of people there...it will be harder than in other neighborhoods.

Presidential Towers is on the 500 block of Madison I think not the 5000 block, big difference. The 500 block of Madison is not dangerous. I don't know if it's 'nice' but it's not dangerous. So if you are hellbent on living in Presidential Towers, by all means.

If you're a young person looking to meet other young people, girls, are artsy, etc., there are a lot of other neighborhoods you might look at.

But if you're just a 35 year old dude planning on going to school and going back to your apt to study every night, you actually could do worse than just River North. I mean, it's a nice area. Just not very neighborhoody.

I would look for a studio somewhere around there before I moved to the West Loop (prez towers) but that's just me. The West Loop really doesn't offer much except more affordable pricing.

Presidential Towers is fine. Very close to the train station (Metra) that heads out to the suburbs.

The walk from the above to 451 N LaSalle will only take about 6 to 10 minutes depending upon your rate of speed. You will mainly be walking through the commercial/financial areas of the Loop.
