This year was no different, but I had a hard time selling the Cub game this year because a) its a weeknight, b) the economy is in the toilet and c) both teams are lousy.

I'd much prefer they either eliminate interleague play entirely, or at least scale it back to playing the Cubs just three games per year. Like I said, the novelty has worn off. There is only so much "forced rivalry" that the fans want to endure year after year. Cubs-Sox, Dodgers-Angels and Yankees-Mets might seem like natural rivalries, but other than them, there really aren't all that many others. I often hear Cleveland Indians fans complain about their "forced" rivalry with the Reds; they insist their actual rivals are really the Detroit Tigers. How about Baltimore and the Nationals? Yeah that's some "rivalry", the Nats have only been there since 2006.

I see bigger and livlier crowds at Minnesota-Milwaukee interleague games but that stems from the MANY years the Brewers were in the American League. Those two teams really were rivals!
Actually I think ticket sales for interleague play this year is up. The weekend the cubs and yanks sold out, so did A's and giants and a few other places. It's been a very good idea since inception-to the point that there is scuttlebut about adding more of it.

Something tells me if that if this weekend stays warm and crispy, Wrigley may be packed.
