Public schools in all parts of the US are, for the most part, free. The exceptions are relatively minor costs for mandatory school supplies and to participate in optional extracurricular activities.

Costs at private high schools vary greatly. The lowest cost private schools in the Chicago area are the ones run by the Catholic church. The average tuition for these is $8000-$10,0000 per year. You will usually get a discount if you have more than one child in school at the same time.

Non-Catholic private high schools in the area are much more expensive. Two of the better known ones are the Latin School of Chicago and the Laboratory School of the University of Chicago (where the Obama children went before moving to the White House). The annual tuition for high school (grades 9-12) at Latin is $27, 985. The figure for the Lab School is $23,928.

Public school quality varies greatly in the US. Schools are governed and financed at the local level, so the schools can be very different in two areas that are not that far from each other. Generally speaking, the best schools are located in the suburbs of large cities like Chicago. Many people who are able to do so choose where they live based on which public schools their children would be able attend.

If you are considering being in the Chicago area while your child is in the 11th grade, you may want to look into school districts in the western and northern suburbs of Chicago where your child could go to school for free, but still be in a high quality school.

The reality is that if he doesn't have a green card or US citizenship, he will have to reimburse the school board in advance for the costs of public education. I think he should do some basic elementary school level Google research pertaining to his individual situation first.

Yeah and how exactly is an Indian to get in here illegally? Obviously he's looking for a student visa. I guess he could overstay a tourist visa.
