She's referring to the UK version of Shameless, which the US version was presumably based on.

It is. The same guy is behind both.

The Gallaghers house is at 21st S. Homan... North Lawndale neighborhood. The El your seeing is the Pink line. So that takes care of WHERE it's filmed and WHICH train your seeing...

The show claims they live in the back of the yards, in fact, in the episode where Debbie steals the kid they show maps of where they are at. Western, Ashland, Racine, Halsted, all them streets...as far as # streets they are in the 30's - 40's ... Bridgeport/Canaryville but west of those neighborhoods...

Either way, where the show is filmed, or where it's claiming to be there are 0 white families

I think the US version of this show was absolutely terrible. Not to mention inauthentic vis-a-vis Chicago

I didn't like the first few episodes, although I think part of it was just difficulty taking it on its own instead of comparing it to the BBC one (which I also love). They more or less have used the exact same scripts, with only light editing, for the American version.

It has now grown on me, though, and I like it almost as much as I like the BBC one.

I actually think it fits Chicago pretty well. Locations aren't always mapped perfectly, but show me any movie that gets all the streets mapped directly to reality. Certainly the storyline has a few things that are still more British than Chicago, but I think it's more authentic than a lot of shows set in Chicago and I hope it lasts at least a few seasons.

What I think is odd is what they censor. It's Showtime. Why would they sensor *anything*? And when they do cut out the audio for certain phrases, they don't censor the closed captioning, so I can go back and watch that.

Anyway, I was suspicious of the show at first, but I now count myself as a fan. I do, however, hope they branch off into their own scripts instead of just repurposing the British ones - it would make the show even better.

I just find a lot of it highly implausible and the characters more 1-dimensionally portrayed somehow than in the UK version. I also don't like a faux-punk soundtrack/score trying to tell me how to feel about each scene, and how the house Steve bought for Fiona has a satellite dish, and I could go on.

I realize I'm in the minority here. I haven't found too many people who don't like it.

I liked some of the episodes I saw of Chicago Code, but what's with nobody having Chicago accents except Jennifer Beals who, although from Chicago, does a clownish version of one?

Nobody that went to Francis Parker School has a real Chicago accent.

I don't hate Chicago Code, but that's about as far as I'll go in supporting it. Compared to Shameless, the acting is worse, the characters are awkward, the Chicago-ness is forced and, at times, silly. I'm not sure how you can call Shameless implausible but like Chicago Code.

you're right, Chicago Code is pretty silly, especially with the whole "Irish Mob" thing, but I am a big fan of Delroy Lindo, so I'm biased.

I guess I would say both are highly implausible, and neither paints an accurate picture.

And for Shameless, I think some of the acting is good. Joan Cusack, Joel Murray, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, all do the best with what they've got to work with. Emmy Rossum is hot but I feel like she, and the show, are doing a caricature of "poor".

You could do the U.S. version of poverty as comedy, especially as set in Chicago, better.

Maybe a better transplant city would have been Detroit or Cleveland
