the sad truth is that everything he/she feigns concern about it is also a problem in Lincoln Park, LV, etc. predators are often clever enough to go to fancy neighborhoods, hence the entire concept of the "gated community."

Diversey and Western, that's right by TJ Max and Target, lots of hardcore gangbangers in those stores.

The area is fine. If you can't stomach living there you probably wouldn't like Chicago.

Oh, and don't even think about going to Petsmart. Those poodle-groomers will give you the old what for!

Those bag boys at Strack and Van Til will cut you if you don't tip 'em.

My biggest current complaint is the lack of safe East/West roads. Irving, Addison, and Diversey are all bad. Armitage is the only good East/West rd in the area.

TOTALLY. I use Belmont primarily, it's a battle to say the least. Diversey isn't the worst, but it could be improved.

I think Diversey is the street they should focus on for people in Avondale/Logan Sq.

I plan on pushing this issue in the 35th ward, Diversey isn't a bona fide IDOT-owned truck route (those are on the 8's) and goes through wards with good alderpeeps in Wags and Moreno.

I've taken Irving Park from Elston all the way to the bike path a few times, needless to say I was happy to still be alive when I got there. Anything to help with a safe east/route from the Kennedy to the lake would be great.

Won't the Bloomingdale trail help some with that if they ever get it open? Or is that too far south to do you any good?

It's too far south for me, as well as not going far enough east.

This is what we need:

People have told me Addison is supposed to be better than Irving, but they've been repaving Addison and a lot of it doesn't have lane striping right now.

One route you could try is Irving to Lincoln to Armitage east into the park system, you'll eventually pop out at North on the lakefront. Lincoln is my favorite street for biking as it's wider than most, but not quite wide enough for cars to try and pass traffic illegally on the right (that is the bane of my biking existence!).
