Right, because the arts have never existed in rough neighborhoods. (sarcasm)

Erm, Reagan beat Carter. Duh.

I won't even address the Rahm butt kissing in this story.

I voted for Chico.

And it wasn't because I hate Rahm. He's actually quite impressive in person.

My problem with Rahm is he has spent so much time in Washington, he does not understand the city very well beyond the North Side district that he represented. Furthermore, he's one of those big-picture policy guys that knows ten times more than anyone else about anything, and is not particularly interested in the details.

When he came to talk to us, he had lots of things to say about the great things he had done for Ravenswood.

But he didn't bother to take the time to learn about ONE ISSUE pertinant to the Near West Side, and worse, that didn't seem to bother him one bit. He comes across as a "my way or the highway" guy who doesn't need nothin from nobody. A lot of people were impressed with that, and felt that his certainty about everything and his non-pandering showed he was focused straight shooter. I found him poorly-prepared, and because there was no sign of remorse or discomfort about his poor preparation, arrogant. His presentation was little more than a live version of his commercials, which I found a waste of time because didn't tell me anything I hadn't already heard on TV.

That said, I don't think the mayoral election should be a popularity contest, and as we saw with Blago, politicians with people skills and nothing but people skills are the most dangerous of all.

I wish Rahm well and I hope he succeeds, but he's not the kind of guy I'd want to have for a boss or neighbor.

I don't agree with you often, but I agree with you 100% here.

You should look at the percentages Rahm got on the north side, far north side and downtown. They were all in the 70's and 80's.

What about this load of malarkey? :

I don't hate transplants for being transplants. I dislike people from any backround not because of what they look like or where they are from, but rather how they act and what they do and say.

I have dated quite a few women that are transplants, including some from Michigan,Wisconsin, and Missouri.

Obviously I don't hate transplants.

You are a very lucky person, in my 20 years of existence, this would be the first without a Daley in charge of Chicago.
