Hi there!

I'll be moving to Chicago with my girlfriend in a couple of months. We are both from Europe and have been looking for information about what neighborhood to move in. I've read about Lakeview, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, West Loop… NabeWise.com has been really useful.

We want to live close to the loop (20-25 minutes) and so far, Wicker Park or West Loop look like the best options. I'll work in the West Loop, in Jackson Blv. Our only concern is that my girlfriend can't work because of her visa status, and we would like to live in a neighborhood with variety of cafes and shops from walking distance so she can go for a coffee and do stuff during the day. The rent is not a problem, we just want to find a nice place with lots of cafeterias nearby to walk around, safe… We've seen pictures of Andersonville and we like that kind of feel a lot, unfortunately that's too far from my studio in the West Loop.

I'm a designer around 30 and Wicker Park looks good (at least when reading about it), but we would love to hear from somebody that knows better since it's hard to make a choice from Sweden. If you have any recomendation about a specific street in Wicker Park or somewhere else… All feedback is welcome!

Thanks!

ps, I forgot to say my girlfriend is half swedish, half dominican…*but I guess that shouldn't be a problem.

I would suggest you look near Division anywhere from Ashland on the east to Hoyne on the west.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like a very nice street. This is what we are looking for. Btw, we just stumbled upon this site, it is great for finding apartments in a specific location rather than browsing craigslist: Apartments for Rent - PadMapper Apartment Search for Oodle, Apartments.com, Kijiji, and Craigslist Apartments
