Are there any places in the US that have an exdraordinarilly high amount of ex-Chicago residents? What places outside of Chicagoland attract the most ex-Chicagoans?

It seems that midwesterners gravitate towards southwest Florida, and northeasterners towards southeast Florida.

The Phoenix area in Arizona is a huge draw, as is southwest Florida as someone else mentioned. Some folks are older "snowbirds" that only migrate to these places during the winter.

In the Midwest I'd say summer home areas include west Michigan and many parts of Wisconsin.

Another vote for the Phoenix area. I can't tell you how many Chicago transplants I ran into while living in N.E. Mesa; our next door neighbor, neighbor across the street, pizza guy, and on and on were all from Chicago.

Heck, the next door neighbor actually lived two towns away from my old Chicago suburb. What's weirder still...I'm in Ga now, and a neighbor here in Ga, lived in the subdivision across the street from me in Arizona .

No, I knew none of these people before moving.

Maricopa County (Phoenix area) is reputed to be about 1/3rd Chicago-area transplants. There's also a strong Chicago/Mississippi connection, and some families that came up here from there are apparently trickling back down there.

We seem to have a fairly big community of former Chicagoans here in Charlotte, NC, now. (good thing, too...it was insane repeating myself all the time because they couldn't understand me). Now, I use the term "Chicagoan" fairly broadly as it includes suburbs, too. But, regardless, there are Cubs fans here; my current boss used to live in Joliet as a kid and is an avid Cubs fan. Also have a neighbour from Mundelin. More & more, I can hear the accents or see Cubs/Bears stuff around.

I am told that they are drawn here because we actually have the full 4 seasons, as opposed to FL or AZ. We do have winter, but, it is relatively short and (usually) pretty mild.

We recently relocated to St. Pete Florida, and there are quite a few ex-Chicagoans and snowbirds all throughout the Tampa Bay area.

oh, and I forgot; one of your mods, Orangish, (originally from the Chicago area) moved to Charlotte briefly before moving back!
