The long term health of this city does kind of concern me. It seems like the city just went through a period over the last few decades where it went from a blue collar city to a white collar city that attracted a lot of corporate business. Perhaps it could hit a stagnation point after the good run it had.

On the other hand the city is quite large and still attracts young white collar professional in droves (especially from the midwest). There is still a lot of talent and infrastructure here that is attractive.

I think there are more "no collar" people in Chicago than ever.

Well I was reading that technically there are subsidies that keep around 70%-75% of businesses from paying ANY corporate taxes - so I guess that's at least something good.

Wow, what are these subsidies? (Sorry, I'm new to this place!)
