So when I've been in Chicago running the Chicago Marathon, I've stayed at this comfy little hostel in Greektown (Parthenon). The nearest cross streets are Jackson & Halsted. I'm just wondering, for those who know this area, are there reasonably priced studio apartments here that are closer to Michigan Ave? I think the scariest thing I saw both times I was there were the people hanging around the 'New Jackson Hotel' but otherwise, I felt pretty safe and had a great time. And since I don't drive I LOVED the fact that I can get around on the trains/buses, and with a CTA iPhone app, I learned the routes I needed within two days.

This looks like a fun area to live (when you're on vacation though, it's almost like 'beer goggles' in terms of location - anywhere is paradise as long as it's not back home, where you have to work and deal with the daily inconveniences of life!)

. If you can quantify 'reasonably priced' , it would be helpful . If you're looking for smaller apartments nearby .. there are quite a few buildings w/ studios and 1 bedroom convertibles just east of Greektown across the expressway ( Presidential Towers, some rental buildings north of there ..) ..These typically start around 1100/month .. West of Greektown is mostly loft and soft loft condos that are bigger and a bit more expensive .. South of the area are neighborhoods around U of Illinois- Chicago ..
The New Jackson Hotel is an abomination and an abnormality ..don't let it sway your choices ..

Greektown is over a mile from Michigan Avenue, and about two miles from the North Michigan Avenue shopping area. It's not exactly a different continent, but they are distinctly different areas.

1) What part of Michigan Avenue do you want to be near?

2) How much do you want to spend?

3) Renting or buying?

4) Do you want to be closer to Michigan Ave or closer to Greektown?

There are lots of other nice areas well served by transit in chicago. If you could give us some details we could make sure that greek town is where you need to be. I like the area but if you want more nightlife and don't have a car lakeview and lincoln park are also good options.

That area is cool but you are only scratching the surface... I think there are better AND cheaper areas.

If you like Greek food and Gyros, Greektown is the place to be.
