I know this question maybe more easy to answer, based on what season it is, summer being yes, winter being no).

But in terms of restaurants, cafes, bars, etc.

What places in Chicago have what might be called "California cuisine." You know something with a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, organic this and that, etc.

I know thats very broad. But are there any places where you feel like the vibe and style feels particularly "Californian"? Either northern/San Fran or southern/LA/SD.

Obviously its hard to feel like you are in California in the winter, but some places to have a sun-room.

Get what I'm asking?

What you are probably referring to is San Francisco yuppie culture and Southern California beach culture.

Heavy use of organic foods, green vegetables, and avocado (also a vegetable). Healthy sushi as well.

To be honest, I'm not sure the vibe of those places can be replicated, only the food. It's hard to even replicate beachside Southern California inland in LA.

Any sushi restaurant in Chicago is as good as any in California. Lots of organic restaurants in Lakeview and Wicker Park/Bucktown.

Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park has that NorCal vibe/menu. Cousin's Incredible Vitality is raw vegan. Maybe Earwax in Wicker Park. Or you could just hang out at the Whole Foods salad bar, get a bottle of red from Napa and inhale the patchouli from aisle 8.
