The dog and I discovered the McCormick Place Busway while walking beside the Metra tracks just north of 27th St. It was a curious sort of roadway, through tunnels and canyons and vacant except for tour buses, which went by only occasionally. We followed the busway north, from what looked to be its southern terminus, and we got as far as 14th st., where a security guard ran us off. The northern terminus seems to be under Randolph St, but we never made it that far. I saw no sign that the busway went south of 27th St., and I suspect there is no reason for it to go there.

Well it's a magic road for buses going to the convention center (packed with them during events) that pols also take from time to time. Of course being Chicago the article kinda twists the reason for the road.

I have noticed the busway while riding the Metra Electric. I thought it was a great idea, a shortcut for conventioneers from their Michigan Avenue hotels to McCormick Place. I did not know politicians were able to use it as well. I should have known. Unlike Lake Shore Drive, I doubt anyone will write a hit song about it.

I've been on it a few times related to work at McCormick Place and the Art Institute. I've always thought of it as an access road for trucks and buses more than anything else. Every vehicle I've seen down there was a bus or was related to some sort of service. It can get pretty busy during big conventions.
