Friday Night was heavy rain and some people woke up to flooded basements. My Wicker Park home almost flooded but it didn't - just got a little wet as I swept my outside drain clean 2 weeks before. I always feared a flooded basement but this should rarely happen in Chicago because we have the Deep Tunnel. I put most of my women's clothes from the basement to the garage in case of floods.

So did your place flood?

Heavy rains slam area flooding basements, closing roads

Mention of women's clothes. Check.

Mention of bicycles: Not found.

Where do you keep your bicycle collection? Not in the basement?

I don't know if my neighborhood has a giant umbrella over it or what, but I was absolutely oblivious to how much rain we got and how much trouble it has caused for so many people and communities until I started hearing all kinds of reports about it on the news, and the turnout at a function I was attending on Saturday was very low and a bunch of people called to say they wouldn't make it because they kept getting re-routed around flooded out underpasses and finally gave up and went back home.

Well Irving Park Road was a portage. I am sure the Indians knew that it flooded less around there...

We had no water in our basement. But I was in the Milwaukee area for this storm, and Milwaukee got SLAMMED. Check this out near the Milwaukee/Shorewood border:

I will say if anyone has a quality contractor they'd recommend I'd love to hear it - I got a few from folks in the neighborhood, but I like getting multiple bids. Hoping we just need a pipe to extend how far out our sump pump sends the water.

Bicycles are in the basement, but some will be moved upstairs after my mom goes to the Philippines.

Well, aren't you afraid of them rusting or getting ruined?

Like Drover, I had no idea anything unusual happened until I turned on the news Saturday. There was some standing water around the gutters near me, but only slightly more than what usually happens after a storm. Found out today a friend who lives in Brookfield lost everything in his basement and first floor.
