I'm a single 28 yr old professional female possibly moving to Chicago. I like to go out but over the fresh out of college crowd. I'm basically looking for a neighborhood that's attracts late 20s to early 30s crowd, safe with pretty easy access to shops/restaurants/bars (gonna try to go without a car). Any ideas?

The "youngest" (fresh out of college) neighborhoods tend to be Lakeview/Wrigleyville and (arguably) the Wicker Park area.

The general outlying neighborhoods from these tend to get a bit older and more sophisticated. Uptown, Edgewater, Gold Coast, River North, and possibly Lincoln Park would all be good bets.

I've always liked West Loop, Greektown, and Little Italy as well. Any more inland than these areas and I'm kinda clueless.

I would go with Ravenswood, North Center, Roscoe Village, Lincoln Square...

River North and Streeterville bars are mostly geared toward late 20s thru the early 40s crowd.

Are the River North and Lakeshore East areas more "uppity" (for the lack of a better word)? I'm also moving to Chicago in a few months, but looking for a down to earth crowd (rather than an upper west side NYC crowd). River North and Lakeshore East areas appeal to me as they are more diverse and not such a college aged area, but not sure about the diversity. Any help is appreciated!

I wouldn't really call them uppity, they can be I guess but it's most just full of professionals, some young, some older. Rich people and middle class people. Now, most of the trendy bars are in River North so you will definitely get those types of people in the area, but it's not like snob central.

It's hard to know what you mean by "down to earth". I read that as low key, and I think of like Roscoe Village or something. There are down to earth people everywhere in Chicago though.

I thought you were looking for Naperville or Oswego - no longer scared of your shadow?
