My husband and I are thinking about domestic adoption. At this point we are searching for adoption agencies. We live in Evanston. We already have looked into The Cradle. If you have good experiences with any adoption agency in the Chicago area, please let me know.

Congratulations on considering adopting. Although I do not know anything about agencies I think its great that all the babies in foster care can find a loving family. Best of luck.

have you considered private adoption at all? Just curious as it is most likely half the cost, but you do have to work at it. I know a lot of couples who have adopted domestic, privately

I recommend not limiting yourself to adoption agencies in your home state. Many agencies are working with families from all over the united states. Research is the key. Some things to consider are:
1. What are the adoption laws in your home state?
2. Of the agencies in your state what are the average wait times before placement
3. Do they assist birth parents in your state only or across the country? (this can be a limiting factor if they do not)
4. What are the required fees? When are they due?
5. What happens if the birth parents decide to parent instead of placing with you? Do you lose your adoption funds? Are they protected in any way? What is at risk?
6. What kind of services do they offer pregnant women? Is counseling available to them?
7. Check out their references, what do other families have to say?

All of these any many other questions can help you to make an educated decision about the agency you decide to work with? Also, I would work with more than one agency. Research online, many agencies do not require substantial fees to work with them or any at all through their outreach programs and this can give you many more options and opportunity to find your baby.
