Its pretty rural. I think the town itself is actually less than 1,000, and the next towns over are 7-10 miles away. Its in McHenry County, so being a bit closer to the Chicago area than much of downstate Illinois does make a little difference. And I'm sure it will grow, but suburban sprawl has not reached it yet. Its also on the way to Lake Geneva, so businesses in Hebron are helped out by that.

Hope this helps.

I was there in 2007 for the first time since 2001 and I noticed a few subdivisions under construction, I was pretty surprised because of how far it is from Chicago but idk how theyre doing since the recession hit. So I was just wondering how the town is like now.

Thanks tex?il? for the info.

Sorry I didn't post in the IL forum I thought it was considered a suburb, the drive to Chicago o hare was only like an hour.

Knit girl, under what definition is Hebron not a suburb? Hebron is in McHenry county which is considered part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Hebron is as much a suburb as Crystal Lake is. You can't pick and choose because its more rural. If you were to drive 15 miles west on IL. 173 to Capron---and state that is not a suburb, I would agree because Capron is just over the Boone county line.

I would classify it as a distant suburb. Some might consider it a future suburb. Is its water tower still painted like a basketball, for its team having won the State title in the 1950's?

There is not really a lot there. A high school, several small but above average restaurants, a couple of small subdivisions and a lot of farmland.

It is a quiet town and people are pretty friendly/

Frankly, Hebron is currently nothing more then a backwater, speed trap for western Chicago suburb folks heading to Lake Geneva (been the wonderful recipient of a speeding ticket for doing 33 in a 30 mile zone so I can attest first hand).

Oh, and the police offer had a brand new SUV patrol car (wonder how they paid for that one - hmm) and referred to me as an Arab (I am actually Greek) so go ahead chime the banjos.

The area may change someday but don't bet on it. There is absolutely nothing this area has to offer in attracting new residents and it will most likely continue to die a slow death.

I enjoy the town, we actually vacation there every few years. My family owns a huge tree farm just outside of the town, the views are beautiful, we ride around on atvs, its a short drive to lake geneva, there's a really neat apple tree farm/ barn/ park thing that we go to that pretty cool. and the people of the town seem nice. It's a nice relaxing get away from the busy life of the city/suburbs, and a real nice change from Florida. I was just wondering how life was like in the town since I'm only there for few days every several years. I hope it doesn't ever turn suburban, last time I was there and saw those new subdivisions under construction in the town it scared me. Glad to hear it's still the same.
