Me and my wife both in early 30's are looking forward to moving from Miami FL to Chicago in May.
I would appreciate if you can give me some advice on what neighborhoods should I be looking for when moving to Chicago (prefer suburbs). I would also appreciate if you can give me idea of specific rent apartment complexes. (maybe even a website of the apartment complex or price range).

I'm looking for 1/1 unfurnished.
Safe neighborhood and close to public transportation.
Assigned parking must (preferably garage).
I prefer large rental complexes owned by a company rather than owner operated.

I guess I should also mention that I'm not looking for anything fancy because this would be temporary (6-12 months).

Thank you and I appreciate any advice.

I won't have a job when I move there and the plan is to find one.
I may also mention that money is not an issue I can live for years without a job, but hope to find a job in a reasonable time considering the state of the economy.
Also don't want to pay $2k for rent if I can do it for less.

One bedroom apartment complex in the suburbs with parking? No restriction on commuting distance? There's probably several hundred to choose from.

Check out the Chicago Tribune rental web page (Chicago apartments - chicagotribune.com).

Don't know what kind of job you are looking for, but to be very general, the largest concentration of white collar professional jobs are located in four areas:

1. The Loop (downtown Chicago)
2. Office parks along I-90 from O'hare to Hoffman Estates
3. Office parks along I-88 from Oak Brook to Naperville
4. Office parks along I-94 from Skokie to Deerfield

As far as I can tell, blue collar jobs are more scattered about. In general job growth in the metro area is in the north and west suburbs while the south suburbs are losing jobs and industry.

Default Apartments

Here is an example of apartments in Oak Park. Click on Sample Apartments. Each apartment has a floor plan, square feet and cost per unit. Click on the red ball to see another room in the unit.

The non-profit housing center can find you short-term lease and help you with utilities, transportation, partking, etc..

The is a starting point to help you..It is a nice area with mature trees and wonderful history. It has its rough edges too. The rental center can help you avoid these areas.
