Hi, I am a graduating Northwestern student and I have accepted a job with Volkswagen Credit in Libertyville. I am a bit concerned about moving out to the suburbs. I still have friends in the city and I would like to be able to go out with them on weekends. Would a commute from Rogers Park or even Evanston be totally nightmarish? Would it take more than an hour each way? Any suggestions on suburbs would be immensely helpful. Also, what are rents like in Libertyville, I can't find apartment listings anywhere. Thank you

libertyville is not exactly the boonies. you can live there and still see your friends on the weekends. and no, the commute is not that bad. people do it every day....and from much farther away than libertyville.

you probably cant find rental listings cause there are not a lot of managed places...try the newspaper -- like the news sun. you could probably find a cute apartment above a store downtown or something. libertyville is a nice town...dont fear it. your friends should visit YOU!

Default I'm graduating from NU and working in Libertyville also

Hey, i just posted a reply to you on my thread... but i figured i'd respond here as well.

I'll be working in libertyville next year too at Motorola. I've been using apartments.com and have found some really nice places. I'm going to send you a private message on this site...since we're kind of looking at the same thing in the same area, maybe i can discuss with you what i've found sometime here at NU before graduation.

As for commuting between evanston and libertyville - i was thinking the EXACT same thing for the past few months, but after doing the commute a few times in different traffic conditions - forget it. plus the rent for things up there is so much cheaper and it's really not that far from evanston/chicago.

Are you possibly considering living up in libertyville? and if so, would you possibly be interested in splitting the cost with a roommate? (namely me) there are some REALLY nice places (think park evanston quality) that are insanely affordable - especially if the cost is split. let me know! maybe we can meet up on campus at some point and talk about it.
