Well, as much as I don't want to stay in Chicago, my husband found an apartment in the vicinity of where we currently are. It is completely renovated, 2 bedroom and only $900.00 a month. The thing with Hoffman Estates is that it would take me over an hour on public trans to get to work. Not to mention there are a lot of fees. Application fee, pet deposit (non refundable), and extra pet rent per month. Trash and water fee every month too. The place looks decent enough though. The other place we were going to look at is Savannah Trace. That place appears to have better reviews than Berkshires. Check them out!

That's great you found an apartment w/in the city for a good price.

We visited Berkshire today--they do have decent aparments and the community seems safe and family friendly. The rent is a bit ridiculous though--they were very busy leasing apartments today though.
I have called of Savannah Trace, but their server was down so they could not tell me if they had an apartment available in the time frame we need.

We visited about 7 apartments in Schaumberg & Hoffman Estates--really only 1, aside from Berkshire, was really nice. I'll miss the city

Which apartment complexes did you visit? That apartment my husband found was not so great. The bedrooms are small. Tell me if these dimensions aren't small, 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 and 8 1/2 x 8 1/2. It was a nice apartment but more well suited for a single person. Not two people with a baby on the way.

When I heard about all the freaking fees at Berkshire it had my head spinning. I was quoted for a two bedroom, two bath at $899 per month with a 15 month lease. What were you quoted at?

What I don't like about some city apartments is that there is no yard or anything "green". That is why I like the suburban complexes. Have you checked out Palatine or Arlington Heights?

Keep trying Savannah Trace.

Those bedroom sizes are small, especially the 8 1/2 by 8 1/2. If you don't find anything else, it should work fine for a nursery though. The fact that it's completely renovated is nice too. The extra fees really add up, and an hour plus commute would stink. Maybe there's a suburb or city neighborhood closer to your work with more green space? I know it's tough, everything decent is so expensive.
Good luck!

I agree those demensions are small.

We went to Lakes of Schaumburg--which has great ratings-beautiful location and the price wasn't too bad. $835 for a one bed (no utilities)--but the rooms just weren't big enough for me. My husband loved it.

Legend apartments- decent size--location not so great. We saw LK gang graffitti across the street at another complex so that was a turn off.

The woods at Country side (in palatine)--good size apartments--the location was too far out for me. The building are a bit older--they do have some renovated spaces as well though. The rent was in the 800's will all utilities included. They have a so-so rating though.

Remington (in schaumberg)--they show the model apartment on their online photos--and it looks nothing like the real apartments. Very dissappointed.

Beeche Point (hoffman estates)--very big rooms, nice applicances etc../ 1 bed was around $900 I believe there are a few utilities included. My husband thought the hallways sucks and reminded him of a hotel--so it was a no for him. The location was not the most beautiful, but definitely not too bad.

Savannah Trace-- Was the best--very beautiful. 2 bedroom was $935 on a special, I believe--it was lovely--would be wonderful for a family. The negative was that the guy who showed us was liek a car salesmen--slightly pressuring. He could not guarentee that the next year when we renewed our lease, that the price they would higher our rent from would be the $935 deal, OR the original price of the aparment which was like $1046. He said "it depends on the market" where as the other aparments we looked at told us we were locked in at the "special rate" and when rent went up it woul dgo up from the "special" not from the original price. So we didn't want a surprise the next year, and have to move because it wasn't in our budget.

We settled on one of the Village Park Apartment locations, it was decently priced & sized--2 floor one bed room all new appliances etc... we figured we'd stay for one year and then see what happens next year--maybe Savannah Trace will be in our budget.

That was the apartment I was going to look at! So, the price of $939 was not guaranteed if the lease was renewed? That sucks! I spoke to Lisa and she was great! I wonder if she would have something different to say? So the apartment was nice? It looked nice from what I saw on their website adn the rent isn't too bad for a 2 bedroom.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes the 2 bed at Savannah Trace was very nice & spacious. Inside I did not feel like I was in an apartment--the floor plan was great.
If Lisa tells you differently--that the rental special would be locked-in, so if you renew the lease they'd raise it from $939, let me know.

The guy we talked to just told us "we can't be sure, it depends on the market..etc..etc.." it seemed like he was beating around the bush--we asked him like 3 times, and that was the final answer.
