Ok, I've never been to Lake Michigan before and this summer I planned to visit my nearest beach. It's called the Waukegan Municipal Beach (off of Sea Horse dr.) and I was wondering a couple things.

1. Is there any cost? (the beach's site is not clear )
2. Are there any lifeguards?
3. Swimming limits/rules? (love to swim in deep places! )

Oh and how is the lake's water like? When it comes down to lake swimming I'm quite used to the water that has no clarity (Fox Lake, Long Lake).

But my favorite thing about lake swimming is going from the shore to areas where you cannot touch the bottom.

Your question might get more traffic if you post your question in the suburbs forum.

as for clarity, the lake is not particularly clear. Lots of sediment suspended in the water.

I'm going to do this entirely from guesswork.

The beach is free but they charge for parking.
Yes there are lifeguards.
The limit is set by a lifeguard(s) in a rowboat and/or buoys at an appropriate distance based not on water depth as much as distance from shore. Since people can drown in one meter of water, lifeguards will not enforce some wading-only rule. You will be able to swim in deep enough water.
The water is still cold right now, and consequently visibility is about 4 meters if your eyes are underwater.

If that beach or its rules is not to your liking, just walk four blocks to the north, past the pile of riprap, and you will be in Illinois Beach State Park, which is a different jurisdiction and has deeper water, if I recall correctly.
