What do they expect the Village People will show up to disarm and arrest the robbers?
Whistles?

Actually, in Oak Park, that's not likely but still within the realm of possibility.

A much more effective way to fight crime would be to blow......the smoke off your gun after you shoot the robber.

By the way, conservative crime fighting would be gutting the police force down to the Chief and Deputy Don to cut spending.

It may not be a classically "liberal" position (and I'm not a classic liberal), but at least the centrists in control of the Democratic party nationally will fully fund police departments.

No, conservative crime fighting would be to cut all of the programs designed to deal with the underlying causes of crime and then raise taxes to pay for more police, which ultimately would fail. That's what we call a "band-aid." We poke fun at this chief's idea but, realistically, he raises a good underlying point -- you have to fight crime from different angles. His idea is a community policing strategy. I don't think he means for it to be a substitute for police officers.

Conservatives have been gutting police budgets for the last two decades... Same with fire departments. Bill Clinton added hundreds of thousands of police officers to the streets in the 1990s, and crime plummeted. I'll stick with the centrist Democrats on this issue, and ignore the crazy lefties and conservative hatchet men.

Tanksleep pulled out the whistle plan a few years ago to distribute to kids on bikes, but that flopped. I can't believe he's doing it again...talk about creating the appearance of doing something but doing nothing...if someone robs me at gunpoint am I really suppose to blow my whistle and risk being smoked? This is assanine.
