Hi,
I am wondering just how bad the weather is in the burbs of Chicago.
We like the looks of Barrington. We are not really cold weather people, but have family there. We are in NY, and surprisingly the last few years our weather hasn't been bad at all.
Just how much of an issue is snow there?

We should have less snow than NY Id imagine. This year weve had 3 snowfalls, the worst being about 8" or so. The cities are good at keeping the roads clear and doing the best they can. Usually the next day for work the roads are done and just wet, which is nice. Summer weather will be about the same, pleasant most of the time with some spells of high humidity. Falls are gorgeous and spring is decent but can be rainy with cold spells.

Barrington is nice, I assume you have lots of $$$? LOL

Smile we haven't had any snow yet really

Hi Steve,
We haven't had anything really yet in the way of snow. One day we had an icy storm. That is it. It has been nearly 50 degrees. We've had some unbelievably mild weather.
I know Chicago gets very cold due to the wind.
I know Barrington is expensive ( isn't everything these days?) but, New YOrk is even more so. I will probably save money by selling here and buying there.

Very true, but overall Barrington is quite expensive, most homes Ive seen for sale are in the 800K range, with most of the town in the million dollar range. I saw a home for sale there in Unique Homes magazine that was 15 million and another for 12 million. Overall its a nice town and according to CNN it had the best air quality in the nation, strangely. Anyways, snow is common here from November (usually get our first snow around Thanksgiving or so) and we get hit from time to time usually into March (nothing really heavy in March). April is a mix of crap and heaven, some days in the 40s, others in the 70s. May and June are awesome, July and August are our hottest months, usually hitting about 85 or so. A few days will top 100, be prepared for those as well. September and October are beautiful, although late October begins to get chilly with some rain. Hope this helps answer your question!

Sounds like you get a bit more fall and winter than we do. Really we don't get cold until well in December. November will get maybe a few days of cold, but we're still outside barbecuing then.
I am not a winter person, so I may be nuts in even considering Chicago, but it would be nice for my husband to be near some of his family.
We were considering the South once, but I put a stop to that. Too weird for me.

LOL

Yeah, the south was not my cup of tea either. I tried to live in TN, but plainly stated: IT SUCKED. Oh well, at least I tried.

Are you from NYC? If so, our winters should be very similar, us being a bit colder....

Winters in the city can be pretty bad. In the suburbs, though, it's usually around 75 degrees and sunny year round.

I grew up in Barrington.

Well we definitely get the four seasons.

Winter is usually cold. Not a ton of snow.
Spring is spring. April is usually cold. It gets nicer in May.
Summer, ugh... hot and humid. Imagine FL without the palm trees and ocean.
Fall... ahh, my favorite. Nothing better than Fall. The humidity dies down and the crisp cool air comes back. The leaves on the ground. It's simply beautiful.

[spring is decent

Don't agree with this at all. Spring in Chicago is terrible. Let's tell it like it is....Winters are are very cold, and just when you are ready for Spring...you wait and wait and wait....Summers are nice and fall is fine. You can count on June through end of Sept as nice weather.
