I drove past the Gas City station on Butterfield Rd today (in Naperville, I think, I just moved here) and it right at $3 a gallon. Why is it so much cheaper than everywhere else? Is it lower quality?

Thanks!

I assume you are talking about the station on 59 & Butterfield. Are you sure you were looking at the price for unleaded gas. The fine folks at Gas City (they're race track sponsors) put the price of E-85 (85% alcohol) on the top of the price board. If you are use to seeing unleaded/mid grade/premium it's easy to think first price is unleaded.

I got tricked by one of those once.... the put the E85 price at the top and since there was no text with it, we assumed it was Unleaded. I can tell ya , i havent been back to that station.

and OH i hope the prices are falling in the 'burbs too

up here in Wisc, where i have been most the summer ... lowest i saw today was 3.19
where at the peak this summer, it was 4.19
I"m hoping next week - when i head home, my fave station near Madison, is below the $3 mark.

the local gas station, Mobile is always higher than everyone else... so i dont go to him either... but I'll get gas in WoodDale, ,where it's a tad cheaper.

Thanks for the info - that's exactly what I looked at. I didn't even know what E85 was - a Nascar fan I am not!

I filled up today (Sun.) in Bloomington/Normal for $2.95!! I heard that gas was to come down to around $2.60 in the next month or so - let's hope that is true!

I have to run premium in my car and my choice is Shell's V-Power gas, which my car seems to love. I paid $3.59 the other day for premium in Chicagoland, which I thought was incredible. Cost me only $38 bucks to fill up instead of the normal $45-50! WOOT

Oh, regarding the original question? Im not sure why Gas City's prices are lower. The only time I ever go there is when my buddy needs to get the high octane race fuel for his car (I think its 108 octane), and its the only place around that we know of that carries ultra-high octane fuel.

Most likely as mentioned it was the E85 gas, though that gas station does have some of the lowest gas prices in the chicago area, also further down 59 south there is a BP and a citgo? i think it is that also have some of the lowest prices around that i have seen.
