The the P.C to union station thing is doable for you---you just have to not mind the time on the train.

The train ride is fine. My husband has to drive an hour to the train, and then be on it an hour.
you will be fine... enjoy the time and read...or sleep.

Spending an hour to get to and from work is far from ideal, but people get used to it. I've had commutes that long and eventually it become 2nd nature. Now my commute is 40-45 minutes and I lament over that. Humans have a great capacity to adjust to things. I've been in the workforce long enough now that I've had office jobs that were 9-5. Then the norm became 8:30 t0 5 for many companies. Now I work 8:30 until 5:30. If you would have asked me about that 20 years ago, I would have flipped my lid. I would not want to commute from Grayslake to downtown, but I know that if I had to, I'd get used to it and make the best of it.

The train ride of 1hour+ isn't ideal for me. However, since we have family in Milwaukee being 45-50 minutes from them is a plus. When we start looking closer to the city it just gets more and more expensive (housing) and I like the gurnee/grayslake/libertyville area. (However, Libertyville is above our price range).

I love the prairie crossing subdivision but those taxes are killer!

I'm wondering if they ever build that mall on the fairgrounds will the taxes start to decrease.

Who knows...
