Hi. We are wondering if there are any nice medium size suburbs within a half an hours drive to South Chicago Heights? My husband is considering a job there and we haven't heard too many good things about S Chicago Heights so we wonder if there is somewhere really nice within driving distance to live? ANy information would be a HUGE help! We have 5 children and would like to find a family friendly community.

Lots of nice burbs within 10-20 minutes - Orland Park, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Mokena, Flossmoor, Homewood, New Lenox, Manhattan, Really nice areas to live and very good schools.

Yes, the towns listed by the last reply are the ones you would want to check out.

>Orland Park
>Mokena
>Frankfort
>New lenox
>Monee
>Manhattan

Do you know what town you'll be working in?

I believe that you have So. Chicago Heights confused with Chicago Heights. I live in So. Chicago Heights (just bought a home there last year in May) and it is a wonderful, quiet little town right next to Steger. Everybody knows everybody. It's like Mayberry. People tend to get it confused because we do share a Zip Code, and that's all. Most of our resources are shared with Steger. I live right off of Sauk Trail and I could not ask for a nicer place to live. The police out there are really on the case too, which is a good thing.

I live and work nearby in Olympia Fields. I live in the Graymoor subdivision and absolutely love it. Huge lots, open vistas, mature trees and a wide variety of architectural styles. Flossmoor is also very nice. I'm in real estate, so I've been all over including the areas others have mentioned here. Orland and Tinley have nice areas and lots of shopping. I'd be happy to talk with you or show you around if you or anyone is interested in learning more about the area.

Old thead, but thanks jetsetmodern for the input.

Olympia Fields is a nice wealthy suburb. So are Flossmoor, most of Homewood and some parts of Country Club Hills. All nice places to live.

I'd recommend Northwest Indiana. It's equally close and, for the most part, less costly for an equal living standard as some of the communities that others recommended. It's also not as crowded as the Orland/Tinley area.
