Thinking of a move to La Grange next year. What are your favourite things about living in La Grange? Benefits, nice places to visit, amenities? Anything to know about living there?

My children are still in school and my husband commutes into the city.

We have lived here for 8 years (moved here when our oldest was 8months old) we now have 2 an 8y old and a 6y old. We are a young (early 40s) professional couple but were in our 30s when we moved here. Search my posts by name and you will get tons of la grange specific info and recommendations. We have answered many LG questions on these boards…

We love living here and have been very happy. We compared/shopped many towns in west and the north shore before landing here. Being here so long we know a lot so can easily answer any specific questions.

I feel its hard to truly gauge any town right now with Covid - if you visit and try to feel the vibe/experience you will not get a true sense. Nothing is normal right now…

Our favorite thing about LG is the downtown, shops, food, walkability and events. We live walkable to every thing as that is #1 on our list. Here We can have kids but still walk into downtown la grange (known as DTLG) to get great food or drinks and its ok as lg is mostly young families. We have an awesome theater also - currently getting complete makeover. All places are kid friendly and some are trendy vibe with roof tops that almost rival city. Almost... thanks to the diverse downtoon foodie scene our kids love thai food, indian food, ramen, sushi, etc…

Beamis woods is also an incredible trail that you can easily bike to get to brookfield zoo. Older kid activity. Although we have done with tag alongs. This is fun if your more the athletic type…

When you visit later/dinner go to Elm or 1416 for a roof top (nicer) experience and top it off with beers from the brewery next to fountain. The brewer there makes some amazing beer. Kama is incredible if you appreciate indian food. If you come for breakfast or brunch do prasino. Lunch with kids do maks. Grab coffee at owl and lark. Tates ice cream fun if you want an old school ice cream shop - geared for really young kids. The theater rehab is adding a bar for mom and dad - Again its almost like being in city but adding a kid friendly spin. In general thats the case for all places and events in LG.

The schools are awesome and the train to city is 17min express. My wife (pre-covid) was door to office 25 minutes via metra. LG access to city is stellar not only via metra but also via drive. Many couples/friends do date nights in city (non express train ride is still quick) and uber back.

People super friendly here also and many transplants from city. We kinda do a great job giving new young families a fresh landing spot thats not a total suburbia feel coming from City… in LG you still have super easy access to the big city life if you choose.

Biggest thing to watch for when buying is water/flooding in home. But thats the same case in western springs, Hinsdale, etc - all western burbs.

Check these out also - https://lgnewcomers.com/ you will want to get involved with them to get plugged into everything local. You will also make 100 friends first 3months being part of the group…
