I have looked a bit at Hoffman estates (Barrington schools), Barrington and looked a little at Palatine. Palatine seemed a lil sketchy but like one of the responses commented, I don't think anywhere will be as sketchy as Rockford. My kids are currently in the Belvidere school district and in order for me to have a good chance moving without resistance from their father I will need to be in a better district.
BF isn't willing to spend much more than an 1hr10mins on the train, he factors in another 15mins to get to his office from the OTC and 15-20min drive to a metra. He currently lives in Northbrook off 294 (willow rd) my AM drive from there is 55-65 mins depending on how heavy my foot is. That will be the only time i will be driving in rush hour traffic, not many folks head west during AM rush hour so it works in my favor.
Ah, you are east of Rockford. That would make AH an easier transition.

When looking in Palatine, look on the south side of the village that feeds into Fremd HS. Highly rated schools and far from being sketchy. There are nice neighborhoods on the north half of the village too but also there is a rather large sketchy area in the Rand and Dundee area. Fremd HS and its feeder schools are rated quite a bit higher than Palatine HS and its feeders. And that will save a few minutes on the way to Belvidere as well. Good to know you are in Belvidere and not Rockford itself since Belvidere might be doable in an hour from either Arlington Heights or Palatine. Palatine is the next Metra stop after Arlington Park so the train ride would be between 40 and 45 minutes on most express trains. The fastest one makes the trip in 39 minutes. But most people who live in the south side of Palatine (and some who live north) use the Arlington Park stop. It's closer (at least traffic time-wise) and there is a ton of parking and it is one stop closer to downtown so 5 minutes less time on the train (that's what I did way back in the day when I lived in Palatine). Well under BF's 70 minute max. The southwest corner of Rolling Meadows that feeds into Fremd would give you the same thing and might be a little less expensive.

FWIW, it’s actually the N/NE part of HE that feeds into Fremd HS. Roughly the area north of Algonquin rd.

I was pointing out Rolling Meadows, not Hoffman Estates. The area of Rolling Meadows west of Route 53 is what I had in mind. I agree that area does stretch quite a ways from north to south so maybe just best to say the far west side of RM - west of 53! I was specifically thinking of the area of Rolling Meadows south of Euclid along Quentin.

My bad! I was juggling too many NW suburbs LOL.

That area generally immediately east of Harper College is nice. There should be something good at her price point.

Just pay attention to the school boundaries. Arguably, the hardest task in that area unless you are more familiar.

Also pay attention to boyfriend having to spend a quarter of his life in a car or train so you don't have to...I've commuted long distances and things tend to deteriorate. Don't mean to be a downer but good luck.
