I have just been accepted to a graduate program at a school right by merchandise mart. My fiance and I are looking to places to live. We were wanting something in the range of $900-$1000 and near a park since we have a bulldog and has areas to park. Him and i plan on taking public transportation for most trips into the city so a place by the train stations would be great. So far I am impressed with Jefferson Park, but I would like some other place recommendation.

We will be moving from a very suburban area in Kansas City so I've got my "bubble" mindset still.

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you take a look at NorthBrook area? North Glenbrook High School is excellent!
about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago.

I'm not looking for high school areas. I will be attending graduate school by merchandise mart.

How is the area in Northbrook? And rental pricings? What about parks and parking areas?

I'd look into the area around Independence Park in the Irving Park neighborhood. The park itself is a full city block square, at the corner of Irving Park Road and Springfield Avenue, one block east of Pulaski. There are two CTA Blue Line stops servicing the area (Addison and Irving Park) with a downtown stop only two blocks away from Merchandise Mart. Finally, as long as you stay south of Irving Park Road, parking is wide-open. North of Irving Park Road, the parking is tighter but still pretty manageable as long as you get home before 9pm or so. Two-bedroom units in the area start at about $850 with 3-bedrooms starting at about $1000/mo, usually excluding utilities except water and trash.

Oh, and ignore Cooliner. He didn't even know the name of Glenbrook North High school until a week ago. He's obsessed with it because exterior shots of it were used for The Breakfast Club.
