Hi Everyone,

I am relocating to Westchester, IL with my wife and 5yr old kid, we are coming from Los Angeles, LA and my office will be in Westbrook Corporate Center.

Its a complete weather change and we are little bit worried. Can you recommend Indian communities with a best elementary school in walking distance. I can rent 1/2bhk apartment with budget in between 1-1.5K/month. My first preference is school with Indian families living in and around that area.

I have no idea about the traffic so based on traffic will decide if I need to commute in car or use public transport to office. I am OK to drive 20-30 miles/day.

Appreciate for any help. Thanks in advance.

I live in a suburb near Westchester and have not seen many Indian families around. I could be wrong--but don't know about any Indian schools around that area. You could look it up easier on the internet and call up each school.

Westchester is a pleasant mostly white middle class suburb--depending where you live there, it is questionable what is in walking distance. Try finding a local Indian newspaper.

Thanks for quick reply. It's not about Indian school, in general any elementary schools for kids aged 5yrs. I was mentioning "walking distance" so that we can drop/pickup kid in school by walk (short distance) no need to drive.

Here, read and come to your own conclusions and perhaps you will feel more comfortable in the knowledge that you acquire. Although, personal commentary is always a plus so I hope someone chimes in.

I'm very familiar with the area but have never lived there.

Naperville and Plainfield (North) have a HUGE Indian population and is a nicer area with better schools than Westchester. Naperville is known for their highly rated schools. I also believe Aurora, Downers Grove and Lombard have a high Indian population. They also have highly rated schools. Westchester has very little Indian population!

Naperville is about 26 miles one way to Westchester. Plainfield and Aurora are also about 26-30 miles. Downers Grove is about 10 miles one way to Westchester and Lombard is about 8 miles.

Plainfield to Westchester sounds like a hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Downers Grove would be the best bet of the three above. Not sure if there's anything more affordable in maybe the Hinsdale area in that range. Maybe somewhere in Willowbrook? Or Westmont.

Agreed

I would prefer Westmont over Willowbrook, even Clarendon Hills over Willowbrook.

Scratch Plainfield. Westmont, Downers Grove, Lisle or eastern Naperville would be good.

Scratch the city, that would be a tough ride, especially from Lakeview. Schaumburg is very Indian, but what ToriaT said are good recommendations. You could throw Lombard into the mix too.
