Hi, I will be moving to Chicago with my office in Elk Grove Village. My wife will however be working in downtown.

We need space and have ruled out downtown living - looking to buy a house where both offices can be served. I will drive and she will probably ride the metro. What are some good areas to consider?

Thanx, kramanat

How much do you plan to spend?
If you can spent around 400k on a single house, then Arlington Heights would probably be the best option for you! It's a fairly upscale suburb that has everything for a comfortable living. There's a Metra train station(Arlington Heights Rd & Northwest Highway(Route14)) in downtown. Elk Grove is directly to the south and about 10-15min drive on average.

If you're looking for a lower price than consider the residential part of Elk Grove itself. Or maybe even Wood Dale which is southwest of EG. I'm not quite sure but as I recall WD also has a Metra station. But WD is in DuPage county so your taxes will be considerably higher. Besides both of these places lose to AH in terms of amenities.

Yes, my budget for the house is around 400k. 15 minutes commute looks very good - and so does the option of having a train station to get to town.

Any other ideas?
