Hi All,

We would be moving to Chicago-60606 for work in 2 months from now. We are currently in Tampa and hoping to find a good place with Indian community where we move.

Some of the criterion are:
1. Good commute to work location within 10-15 miles
2. Nearby good school for my 2nd grader child.
3. Good place with Indian community
4. Safe.

Please let us know. Any help is greatly appreciated as we would be making a move just before my childs school starts!

Regards
Pooja

Where is work? That is important to know before we make recommendations. Some communities you could think of depending on work are Naperville, Lisle, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Skokie, etc. Other places such as Westmont or Downers Grove might work too.

This other thread may help:

Your work zip code is in the loop, there is an Indian neighborhood on Devon. Problem is it isn't a nice area, and CPS school district.

Skokie and Niles are the closest I can think of without having a brutal commute.

The 60606 Zip code covers pretty much the whole of the Loop. As Chicago's core business district it is easily accessible by ALL the transit options and you'd be able to live anywhere that connects with either the CTA or Metra rail.

There are many excellent options for renting in towns with EXCELLENT schools close to the Metra station, including the desirable suburbs in Eastern DuPage Co. There are a wide range of options for folks in the whole area that includes places directly on the Metra line like Westmont or Downers Grove as well towns that have good connections to them via Pace bus service in Willowbrook and other towns.

There is no reason to limit your search to a radius of 10-15 miles as even if you were to drive that would still likely not be as good as option as rail transit into the Loop.

Usually, couple with Kids that work in Downtown chicago prefers to stay in the suburbs and commute to downtown via Metra.
You can stay in Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Vernon Hills, Naperville, Downers Grove and Westmont.

Naperville and Schaumburg have highest concentration of Indian population.

Thank you all for your response. Work will be around Willis Tower and Naperville seems best for Stay based on the above responses. Although it will be a long commute to work I believe.

Default Express trains are quite good!

The level of service on the BNSF Metra that serves Naperville includes many express trains that make the trip to Union Station very pleasant. As long as you aren't one of the last ones to the station you can expect a nice cushy seat and the 45 min trip is good to knock out a bit of work, read or relax. Frankly much more pleasant than the CTA service to spots inside Chicago where even in the rare event that the train in not "standing room only" there are no express trains and everyone has to shift around at every stop so it is much hard to do anything other than try to drown out the sound with headphones...
